Abstract

This article is a review study addressing behavioral change within the context of the Behavioral Therapy approach. Behaviorism argues that learning occurs through environmental factors, focusing on individuals' observable and measurable behaviors. In this context, Pavlov's classical conditioning, Skinner's operant conditioning, and Bandura's social learning theory are considered as fundamental theoretical frameworks explaining the acquisition and change of behavior. In particular, cognitive behavioral therapy offers a more comprehensive and effective intervention model by combining behavioral principles with cognitive processes. This study adopted a qualitative research method, and document analysis technique was used in the data collection process. Postgraduate theses and academic studies published between 2001 and 2025 were examined through the National Thesis Center and Google Scholar; a general evaluation was made regarding the effects of the behavioral therapy approach on behavioral change. The findings show that cognitive behavioral therapy-based interventions are effective in different age groups and various problem areas. Psycho-educational programs applied in areas such as academic procrastination, internet addiction, problematic internet use, and family relationships have been found to positively change individuals' behaviors; improving their problem-solving, communication, and coping skills. Furthermore, these effects are not only short-term but also continue in follow-up studies. Behavioral therapy is emphasized as playing a significant role in reducing anxiety, depression, and avoidance behaviors. The effectiveness of both face-to-face and online applications demonstrates the flexibility of these approaches. However, newer approaches such as acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness-based practices reveal that cognitive and emotional processes are also important in behavioral change. In conclusion, behavioral therapy approaches offer a strong scientific basis for explaining behavioral change and can be effectively applied in different fields. However, its limited focus on the individual's internal processes is considered a significant limitation. Therefore, it is stated that approaches integrating cognitive and behavioral techniques are more comprehensive and effective, and further extensive studies are recommended in the future.
