Author Guidelines

GENERAL INFORMATION

Aims and Scope:

The Clinical Journal of Health Sciences (CJHS) aims to present and disseminate theoretical knowledge, clinical experience, and practice-oriented scientific studies produced in the field of health sciences in Cyprus, Türkiye, and worldwide. It also seeks to establish an international scientific forum for academic exchange and discussion within the framework of scientific ethics and academic standards.

The journal publishes original research articles, review papers, case reports, educational and practice-oriented studies, original perspectives offering new approaches in health sciences, translated articles, letters, discussion papers, as well as book and thesis reviews in the fields of medicine, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, pharmacy, midwifery, physiotherapy, anesthesia, paramedicine, psychology, child development, health sciences, public health, and other related health sciences.

As an international, peer-reviewed, and open-access journal, the Clinical Journal of Health Sciences adopts an interdisciplinary approach and aims to strengthen scientific interaction and academic collaboration across health-related disciplines.

The journal recommends that authors comply with the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and is committed to the principles of ethical publishing, transparency, and academic integrity.

Publication Frequency:

In accordance with the decision of the Editorial Board dated December 20, 2024, the journal has been published three times a year (April, August, and December) since 2021.

Language of Publication:

The publication languages of the Clinical Journal of Health Sciences are Turkish and English. Articles published in Turkish must include an English title, abstract, and keywords. Likewise, articles published in English must include a Turkish title, abstract, and keywords.

Adherence to grammatical rules and clarity of expression is a priority for the Editorial Board. Manuscripts should be written in a clear, concise, and academically appropriate language.

Accepted articles are reviewed by language editors (Turkish and English). Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts based on feedback from editors, reviewers, or language editors during the evaluation process. Authors are responsible for making these revisions.

The journal does not provide translation services. Authors requiring language editing or translation support may consider external services, such as those offered by the Cyprus Mental Health Institute http://ruhsagligienstitusu.com/ 

Open Access Policy:

The Clinical Journal of Health Sciences is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal. All accepted articles are published online under a Creative Commons license and are freely accessible.

The journal supports the Budapest Open Access Initiative and adopts its principles. For this purpose, open access policies available at http://www.budapestopenaccessinitiative.org/boai-10-translations/turkish-translation are adopted by the Editorial Board of the Cyprus Journal of Health Sciences. All published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.

Writing Content of the Journal:

During submission, the following components must be provided: cover letter, title, author names and affiliations, contact information, Turkish abstract, and English title and abstract.

For manuscripts written in English, a Turkish abstract is also required.

The main text should be structured as follows: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, and References.

Manuscripts must not have been previously published or submitted elsewhere.

Types of Articles:

The journal accepts the following types of articles for publication:

a)Original Articles:

These are research articles presenting original findings derived from well-designed studies, such as experimental studies, case-control studies, high-response-rate surveys, randomized controlled trials, intervention studies, screening and diagnostic test studies, and cost effectiveness analyses

b)Review articles:

These provide systematic and critical evaluations of the literature.

c)Case Series:

This section includes reports of multiple new, interesting, or rare cases related to a specific diagnosis, clinical feature, or treatment.

d)Perspectives:

These articles present opinions and viewpoints based on experience regarding controversial or debated issues within the profession. Authors are expected to have substantial expertise in the subject area.

e)Practical Psychotherapy:

These articles describe the application of psychotherapy in single cases or case series, with a focus on practical processes, challenges encountered, and how these challenges were addressed.

f)Comments:

These address important issues and may relate to one or more articles recently published in the journal.

1. g) Letter to the Editor:

This section includes brief communications presenting observations or opinions relevant to the field.

Authorship

The Clinical Journal of Health Sciences adheres to the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. Manuscripts must be submitted only after approval by all contributing authors. The Author Form must be submitted along with the manuscript.

Authors should ensure that all individuals who meet the authorship criteria are appropriately listed. Each author must meet all of the following criteria:

• Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data
• Drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content
• Final approval of the version to be published
• Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work

Individuals who do not meet these criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section.

ICMJE Conflict of Interest Forms must be submitted with all manuscripts.

Conflict of Interest Declaration

All authors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. If no conflicts exist, the following statement should be included:

“The author(s) declare no conflict of interest.”

Disclosures should follow the recommendations of the ICMJE.

Clinical Trials

The journal requires that clinical trials be registered in a WHO-approved public trials registry prior to or at the time of the first participant enrollment, in accordance with ICMJE recommendations.

The trial registration name, registry URL, and registration number must be provided at the end of the abstract.

Reporting Guidelines

Authors should follow appropriate reporting guidelines provided by the EQUATOR Network, depending on the study design.

Randomized controlled trials → CONSORT flow diagram

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses → PRISMA flow diagram

The EQUATOR Network Wizard may be used to identify suitable guidelines.

Research Data

The journal supports transparency and reproducibility in research. Authors are encouraged to deposit their data in publicly accessible repositories, where appropriate, and to include a data availability statement in their manuscripts.

ARTICLE WRITING RULES AND FEATURES

General Requirements

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and fluent language. Unnecessary complexity and lengthy explanations should be avoided.

The first occurrence of foreign terms or abbreviations should include their Turkish equivalents in parentheses. Generic drug names should be used.

Footnotes should not be used for citations, but only for explanatory purposes.

Author names should appear below the title. Author affiliations, titles, and contact details should be indicated using an asterisk (*).

If the study has been supported by an institution or presented at a conference, this should be indicated as a footnote on the title. Accepted articles are published in order.

Review Articles:

Case Reports:

Maximum: 3000 words, 2 tables/figures, 30 references.

Perspectives / Practical Psychotherapy / Comments:

Maximum: 2500 words, 2 tables/figures, 20 references.

Letters:

Maximum: 500 words.

References

All references must follow APA format and be listed alphabetically.

Submission of Translations and Theses

Introductions for translations, book reviews, and thesis summaries must be concise. Authors are required to submit the original copies of the translated articles or the full thesis alongside the manuscript. The article length is strictly limited to a maximum of 500 words.

1.2. Acknowledgments

An optional acknowledgment section may be included to recognize individuals who contributed to the study or organizations that provided financial or institutional support.

1.3. Citation and Reference Style

All in-text citations and the reference list must strictly adhere to the APA (American Psychological Association) international format.

• In-text Citations: Sources must be cited within parentheses using the authors' surnames and publication years. Multiple citations should be arranged alphabetically and separated by semicolons (;).
• Single Author: (Akyolcu, 2007)
• Two Authors: (Sayıner & Demirci, 2007, p. 72)
• Three to Five Authors: Include all authors in the first citation (Ailen, Ciambrune, & Welch, 2000, pp. 12–13); use "et al." for subsequent citations (Ailen et al., 2000).
• Six or More Authors: Use "et al." from the first citation (Çavdar et al., 2003).
• References Section: All sources cited in the text must be listed at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order by the authors' surnames, without numbering. Comprehensive formatting for books, chapters, and articles must follow the specific APA examples provided in the journal's manual.

1.4. Tables and Figures

• Quantity and Placement: The total number of tables, graphs, figures, and photographs must not exceed six. Each must be placed on a separate page, with its intended location clearly indicated within the text.
• Technical Specifications: Visuals must be submitted in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
• Table Formatting: Tables should be single-spaced. They must not contain vertical or horizontal internal lines; only straight lines at the top and bottom of the table are permitted.
• Permissions: For the use of previously or electronically published tables, written permission must be obtained from both the author and the publisher and forwarded to the editor.

2. Peer Review and Evaluation Process

2.1. Language Requirements

All manuscripts submitted in English must undergo professional language editing. A Language Editing Certificate is a mandatory document that must be uploaded during the online submission process.

2.2. Double-Blind Peer Review

The Cyprus Journal of Health Sciences employs a double-blind review method to ensure objectivity, where the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential.

• Initial Editorial Review: Manuscripts are first screened by editors for scope, language proficiency, scientific integrity, and originality. Submissions that do not meet these criteria are rejected within one month.
• Preliminary Evaluation: Area editors conduct a detailed examination of the methodology, literature review, and findings. Unsuitable studies are returned within four weeks.
• Peer Review: Suitable manuscripts are sent to at least two subject-matter experts. Reviewers evaluate the work based on originality, methodology, ethical compliance, and contribution to the literature. The review period is typically 3 weeks.
• Final Decision: The Editorial Board makes the final decision based on reviewer reports and a mandatory plagiarism check (via iThenticate and intihal.net). The total process aims to be completed within 3 months.

2.3. Appeals

Authors maintain the right to appeal evaluation results. Objections must be submitted in scientific language with supporting references to editor@cjhsjournal.com.

3. Ethics, Copyright, and Privacy

3.1. Open Access and Copyright

The journal operates under the Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, allowing free access to all published content. Accepted articles are assigned a DOI and published as "Early Appearance" prior to the formal issue publication.

3.2. Data Privacy

Personal data (names, ORCID iDs, email addresses) are used exclusively for editorial purposes, such as identity verification, communication, and ensuring the integrity of the peer-review process. The journal guarantees that personal information will not be shared with third parties without consent, unless legally required.

3.3. Archiving and Cookies

All published full texts are digitally archived. The website utilizes cookies and log files (IP addresses, browser versions) solely to analyze traffic and improve user experience. Authors may update their personal profile information at any time via their account settings.
